Man allegedly set Brisbane house on fire with two women inside

A man will face court on Monday morning charged with two counts of attempted murder after allegedly setting a Brisbane house on fire on Sunday.

Emergency services were called to an Eveleigh Street house in Wooloowin, on the city’s northside, at 6.15am and police said officers found the home “engulfed in flames” upon arrival.

Two women were in the house at the time, but escaped the flames without injury.

Police said a 34-year-old local man handed himself in at Hendra Police Station about 11.30am.

He was charged on Sunday with two counts each of attempted murder and arson – related to a vehicle and house at the address.

He was also charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, common assault and wilful damage, in relation to earlier incidents at the same address.

The man was denied police bail and was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
