Kayaker dies after falling into Brisbane River near West End

A kayaker has died after falling into the Brisbane River on Wednesday morning following what was believed to be a medical episode.

Five ambulance crews, including a High Acuity Response team, were called to the river at Hill End Terrace in West End at 5.40am to reports of a man in a life-threatening condition.

The man, in his 50s, was declared dead at the scene and not taken to hospital.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said five crews attended the scene, which is near the South Brisbane Sailing Club.
