Hour-long delays for northern rail lines, delays to last all morning

Catherine Strohfeldt

Rail commuters heading south into Brisbane have been warned trains are not running to timetable, with delays stretching as long as an hour.

Queensland Rail said a signalling issue had forced several tracks offline along the Caboolture, Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast lines between about 6am and 9am on Thursday.

“The trains are not running to [the] timetable … we’ve got 60-minute delays across the network,” a Queensland Rail spokeswoman said.

She said Queensland Rail technicians were sent to work on the tracks near Carseldine, which was completed shortly before 9.30am.

The Queensland Rail spokeswoman warned delays were expected across the rest of the morning peak period, but were expected to clear slowly.

Across the three-hour period, several tracks had been forced to close and services running express between Petrie and Northgate had been cut to allow trains to stop at every station.

Translink issued a warning to commuters shortly after 6am, warning both inbound and outbound trains were affected.

In a post online about the same time, Queensland Rail warned customers of 30-minute delays, which had grown to 60 minutes by about 8.20am.

Trains were expected to return to their regular timetabling for the Thursday afternoon peak.
