Gutted hotel set for restoration ... and a high-rise tower
A derelict inner-Brisbane pub has been earmarked for restoration, with construction of a high-rise tower planned directly overhead.
The 136-year-old Broadway Hotel on Logan Road in Woolloongabba has been in ruins since it caught fire in 2010.
It went up in flames again in 2018, and no longer has a roof.
Plans lodged with the state government this week show its owner is seeking to incorporate the heritage-listed landmark into a 34-storey tower.
The gutted hotel would be restored and reopened as a hospitality venue.
Reconstruction of its original staircase and internal fittings is planned.
An air raid shelter built during World War II and outbuildings at the rear would be demolished.
The high-rise building is planned directly behind the hotel, with 282 apartments.
It would feature a spa, gym, games room, cinema, private dining rooms, rooftop garden, pool and barbeque area.
A mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments would be offered.
The plans have been lodged with Economic Development Queensland, as the 2507-square-metre-block falls within the Woolloongabba Priority Development Area.
Red Door Architecture designed the building, and the development was submitted on behalf of Broadway Projects QLD Pty Ltd.
Brisbane Times contacted the designer for further information.
The company bought the hotel from Malcolm Nyst in August, 2021, for $8.8 million.
Multiple previous owners attempted to develop the site but were knocked back on heritage grounds.
