One person killed in house fire near Brisbane

A person has died after being pulled from a house fire just east of Brisbane.

The two-storey home on Meredith Street in Redland Bay was reported on fire just before 2pm on Tuesday.

It was “well involved” and seven fire crews were still working to put the fire out two hours later. Fire investigators were also on their way.

There was a “total collapse of the building”, a Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said.

Three people were assessed by paramedics outside the home, two of whom escaped the building on their own.

A 29-year-old man suffered minor smoke inhalation and was taken in a stable condition to Redlands Hospital.

An 18-year-old woman was uninjured and did not require hospitalisation.

A third person could not be located for some time, and their body was later found by emergency services inside the home.

“Initial forensic examinations into identifying the person are ongoing,” police said.

Police have declared a crime scene at the home and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
