Five in hospital after e-scooter catches fire

An e-scooter that caught fire at a home in Brisbane’s south-west has led to five people being taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the home on Sigiriya Street at Darra just before 4am on Thursday.

Three firefighting crews attended the scene where they removed the e-scooter from the home and extinguished the blaze.

They then continued to ventilate the home.

A man in his forties with burns to his back was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, while a man in his fifties with smoke inhalation was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

One woman in her thirties with minor burns to her hands and a teenage girl with smoke inhalation were rushed to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Another teenage girl was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital with smoke inhalation.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said they were all in stable condition.

Fire investigators arrived at the scene at 8.30am.
