E-scooter rider rushed to hospital, police search for witnesses

Queensland police are searching for witnesses after a vehicle and e-scooter crash in South Brisbane that left the rider fighting for life in hospital.

Emergency services were called to the corner of Edmondstone Street and Melbourne Street just after 5.30am on Monday.

Paramedics, including critical care personnel on board, rushed the e-scooter rider in a critical condition to the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

The driver of the 2021 Toyota Corolla sedan was believed to be an Uber driver, who stopped the car as soon as the incident occurred and was speaking with police.

A bystander and the driver of the vehicle rendered immediate assistance to the rider ahead of the emergency response. However, the rider, a 24-year-old local man, suffered critical head injuries.

The driver, a 31-year-old Eight Mile Plains man, was not physically injured.

Queensland police warned of long delays before 9am after initially closing the Melbourne Street westbound before closing the entire section.

“The whole intersection is now closed, local diversions are in place,” they tweeted at 7am.

Forensic Crash Unit investigators are appealing for witnesses, especially those with dashcam vision of the crash or the moments leading up to it, to come forward.

Police are also appealing for business holders to check and provide relevant CCTV.
