Baby and mother found dead in home after man hit by car nearby

The bodies of a mother and her baby were found in their home south of Brisbane on Thursday after a man was hit by a car at a nearby shopping centre.

Kate Paterson, 38, a Logan school teacher, and her one-year-old daughter, April, were found dead inside a home on Belivah Road on Thursday morning.

However, officers had originally been called to an entirely different incident outside the Woolworths on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road in Bannockburn, Logan, about 7.30am.

There, 39-year-old Blake Seers had been hit by a car.

Witnesses reported he had been running towards the road, and may have already had a neck injury when struck.

Officers attended his home on Belivah Road in Belivah nearby to alert family he had been hurt, but instead discovered the bodies of Seers’ partner and child.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said on Thursday their wounds might have been caused by an edged weapon.

“We are obviously investigating the nature of why that gentleman came to be hit by a car,” he said.

“Our minds are open as to what’s going on here, but again it is a suspicious death.”

Crime scenes were established at the property and supermarket, and forensic teams were investigating.

Ryley Evans lives around the corner, and told this masthead the area was normally quiet.

“I looked out the window and then I saw all the coppers and the ambos pull up and the fire brigade, and I thought it was just like a car crash or something,” the 16-year-old said.

“My mate ... said someone got hit and he told me that he saw someone on the ground.”

On Thursday evening, Seers was unconscious and receiving treatment under police guard at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Officers had still not been able to speak to the 39-year-old, due to his serious condition.

Ahearn urged anyone who had been nearby on Thursday morning and had relevant information to contact police.
