Bruce Highway closes after truck hits bridge

The Bruce Highway remained shut on Friday, hours after a truck carrying an excavator crashed into an overhead bridge.

The vehicle hit the underside of the Ilkey Road overpass at Tanawha on the Sunshine Coast, north of Brisbane, about 8.45am.

While no one was injured, extensive damage was reported, with concrete and oil spilled across the highway.

Fire crews used airbags to stabilise the truck.

Multiple diversions were in place and southbound lanes were expected to stay closed for most of the day.
