Rex Airlines rescued by US outfit Air T

By Chris Zappone

Rex Airlines will be purchased by US-based air services company Air T Inc, with the deal to lift the debt-laden airline out of administration and be recapitalised, ending a period of uncertainty for Australian aviation.

The deal will provide regional Australia with the first glimmer of stability over its air transportation options after Rex spent more than a year in limbo.

However, administrators E&Y warned that 4800 creditors who are owed a combined $500 million will probably receive nothing.

Rex Airlines was placed into administration with crippling debts in July 2024, with the Albanese government vowing to back the airline, which has a crucial role in connecting regional Australia to major cities.

The Charlotte, North Carolina-based aviation servicing company’s decision to buy Rex draws to a close a saga that has dragged over a year, as the administrators sought to sell the troubled airline.

By Cameron Atfield

Suncorp Stadium’s calendar congestion has forced the Brisbane Roar to play their A-League match against Newcastle Jets on the Sunshine Coast next month.

The fixture’s venue had been listed as “to be confirmed”, with the stadium unavailable to host the November 9 match due to a Metallica concert three days later.

Heat records fell yesterday across Australia’s interior as the hot air mass loomed towards the coast.

The areas where property prices hold firm, despite the flood risk

By Poppy Johnston

A standard three-bedder at risk of deluge is worth roughly $75,500 less than a comparable property free from the threat of inundation.

The fresh analysis of home prices and flood risks confirms as many as 70 per cent of vulnerable homes are priced at a discount.

The report from real estate data firm PropTrack and environmental not-for-profit Climate Council challenges existing research suggesting flood-hit property markets bounce back quickly after a disaster.
