Over a dozen new food outlets are preparing to open in Brisbane International Airport, expanding the culinary offerings for travellers.
Thirteen new food outlets will open in the international terminal over the next year.
The likes of McDonald’s, Hungry Jacks and KFC will be opening in the international terminal, alongside a Mediterranean-inspired bar Manna, Sushi Jiro and Liv Eat kiosks, and coffee brand Bellissimo. McDonalds will be one of the first to open in late December, with additional outlets opening throughout 2026.
“This upgrade is about celebrating the best of Brisbane and giving our customers more of what they love, great food, great coffee, and a great start to their journey,” said Scott Norris, executive general manager commercial at Brisbane Airport.
This development is part of the airport’s $5 billion Future BNE transformation.

Influencer starts illegal fire, flies drone over campers on K’gari

An influencer has been fined for starting an illegal fire on K’gari.
The Australian woman was caught out after she uploaded a video of the act on the island, about 250 kilometres north of Brisbane, about four weeks ago.
She was fined $834 by Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service rangers.

“Our compliance rangers use different methods to uncover these offences,” a QPWS spokesperson said. “For operational reasons, I can’t provide any further details of compliance activities.”

15 people charged in pre-schoolies drug busts

Almost 100 charges have been laid following a series of search warrants on the Gold Coast in the lead up to schoolies.
Detectives have charged 15 people on 93 drug and weapons offences after eight searches uncovered quantities of methylamphetamine, cocaine, cannabis, MDMA tablets, prescription drugs, weapons and over $70,000 in cash.
“The drugs seized were destined for the streets in the lead-up to Schoolies celebrations, with no regard for the impact they could have,” Detective Acting Superintendent Bowman said.
“These substances destroy lives and fund further criminal activity, which is why we will continue to pursue those responsible.”

LNP to reveal new major project procurement policy after scrapping Labor’s

The Crisafulli government is set to permanently end its predecessor’s much-maligned major project procurement policy today.
Housing and Public Works Minister Sam O’Connor will make the announcement during a keynote speech to a Business Chamber Queensland lunch.
The former policy was favourable to unions and heavily criticised by industry bodies and the LNP while it was in opposition, with claims it drove down productivity.
Within weeks of taking office last year, the LNP made good on their pre-election rhetoric and hit pause on the Best Practice Industry Conditions – known as BPICs – for new projects.
This pause was to continue until the state Productivity Commission made a final call on the matter.
Its report was handed to the government last month and will be released publicly with the government’s response by January.
“BPICs pushed up prices, slowed projects and locked local contractors out. They were a CFMEU tax on Queenslanders — and we’re permanently removing them,” O’Connor said.
“Together with our new procurement policy, this is a major step in saving taxpayers billions and getting crucial housing and infrastructure delivered faster.”

Wiggles admit to likely breaching consumer law

The Wiggles have admitted they likely breached consumer law by selling light-up headbands to fans that failed to carry mandatory warning labels they contained batteries that pose a safety risk to children.
The children’s entertainment group sold 3164 of its yellow and black Emma Bow headbands featuring four lights powered by potentially hazardous button batteries at concerts, in stores and online between June 2022 and March 2024.
The batteries are small flat discs that have a history of causing death and serious injury in children who unwittingly swallow them. They can burn through the oesophagus within hours of being ingested.

On Tuesday, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) – which had been investigating the band – issued a statement saying that The Wiggles Holdings (the group’s company) had provided it a court-enforceable admitting to likely breaching the law in selling the headbands.
The Wiggles sold the Emma Bow headband between November 2015 and March 2024, but its alleged breach of consumer law only occurred from June 2022 when button battery information standards came into force. All headbands sold since 2015 were recalled in August 2024.
The band has now vowed to implement a compliance program. This includes committing to produce an episode of its Wiggle Talk – A Podcast For Parents within the next six months to help raise awareness of the safety issue by discussing the product recall and the potential hazards surrounding button batteries and children’s toys.

Dog missing after car stolen from Wynnum

A family dog – stolen along with the ute it was sleeping inside – remains missing four days later.
Arnie’s owner Nathan McKeown was visiting a friend near Davidson Street in Wynnum on Friday when the vehicle was taken.
He had left Arnie in the car with water and the window open, as the seven-year-old German shepherd didn’t get along with another dog at the home.

PM announces plans for Whitlam statue

Taking in the national news cycle for a moment, today marks 50 years since former Prime Minister Gough Whitlam was sacked, and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced plans to erect a statue to mark the moment.

The statue will be placed in front of Old Parliament House to commemorate both Whitlam’s speech of November 11 and the achievements of his government. He said the sacking of Whitlam was the sternest test of Australian democracy.
Also on this, former Prime Minister John Howard has backed the actions of then-governor general Sir John Kerr 50 years ago, when he took the historic action of dismissing the Whitlam Labor government, and installing Malcolm Fraser as prime minister.
