Caboolture Abbey Museum robbed in overnight heist

Priceless artefacts have been stolen from the Abbey Museum of Art and Archaeology in an overnight heist north of Brisbane.

A man smashed a window at the museum and entered The Abbey Place premises in Caboolture about 3am on Friday.

He then allegedly stole four artefacts, including a statue and bust.

The museum’s team wrote on social media they were devastated by the theft.

“This is currently an active police investigation, and we are working closely with Queensland Police Service in the hopes to retrieve our objects,” they said.

Community members commented on their disappointment over the theft, with one person saying they were saddened and sickened.

“The Abbey is such a beautiful peaceful place,” another person wrote. “This is terrible news.”

The museum will be open as usual on Saturday, with some adjustment to the Egyptian display.
