Serial killer Ivan Milat has been admitted to hospital for the second time this year.

A NSW Corrective Services spokesperson confirmed Milat was transferred from Long Bay Jail Hospital on Friday afternoon.

It is understood that Milat is not in a critical condition. Corrective Services sources have told the Herald that his transfer to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Randwick was not via an ambulance.

Milat, 74, was diagnosed with terminal cancer of the oesophagus when he was admitted to hospital on May 13.

On that occasion he was held in a secure annex of Randwick hospital where inmates are treated. He was restrained to his bed and at least two guards maintained 24-hour surveillance.

Following his cancer diagnosis Milat did not return to Goulburn supermax jail, where he was held in solitary confinement, but was instead transferred to a hospital ward at Long Bay.

He was jailed in 1996 and is serving seven life sentences for the brutal murders of seven backpackers whose bodies were dumped in the Belanglo State Forest between 1989 and 1993.

Milat has always maintained his innocence.

In May NSW Police Minister David Elliot urged the 74-year-old to do “one last honourable thing on his deathbed” and assist police with any questions related to his crimes and other unsolved murders to which he has been linked.
