The e-bike rider, believed to be aged in his 50s, was treated at the scene before being flown to Royal North Shore Hospital.

The driver of the pantech truck, a man in his 20s, was not injured but was taken to Mona Vale Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police have established a crime scene and are investigating, appealing for dashcam footage or information from anyone in the area at the time.

The crash comes amid heightened scrutiny of e-bikes.

Premier Chris Minns on Tuesday announced plans to halve the power limit on bikes sold in NSW to 250 watts, hours after a rider in his 30s was killed in a collision with a garbage truck.

The government will also review the definition of an e-bike to close loopholes allowing “motorcycle-level devices” to be sold as e-bikes.

Some critics have questioned whether lowering the power limit will make a difference.

Federal road vehicle standards are already due to be updated to limit the definition of e-bikes to 250 watts before the end of the year.

Police have urged parents to only buy legal e-bikes in the lead-up to Christmas following a compliance operation targeting modified bikes and dangerous riding at the end of November.

“We have seen more modified bikes and powerful motors fitted,” Assistant Commissioner David Driver said.

“We need riders to understand the dangers of riding on one wheel, without a helmet or in the dark with no lights.”

NSW Ambulance has treated more than 770 patients across the state for injuries related to e-bikes since the start of 2025.

The Herald has urged a rethink on the use of e-bikes, especially by children.
