Man arrested after death of elderly woman in Wollongong home

A man has been arrested following the death of an elderly woman in Wollongong overnight.

Emergency services were called to a home on Gray Street in Woonona about 11pm on Monday after reports a woman had been injured.

A 76-year-old woman was found "unresponsive" in the garden of the home and couldn't be revived, NSW Police said.

Two men, aged 55 and 24, accompanied police to Wollongong police station.

A crime scene has been established, and Wollongong detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.

Following their inquiries, police arrested the 55-year-old man about 11.10am on Tuesday.

No charges have yet been laid.
