A Bankstown dad has won the $100 million Powerball jackpot on Thursday, bursting into laughter and slapping his face to make sure he was not in a dream.

The man is now Australia’s second-biggest lottery winner after pocketing the entire $100 million jackpot as he was the only winning entry in draw 1414.

The Western Sydney man did not answer the first call from lottery officials but eventually picked up the phone, and laughed hysterically when he heard the news.

“Are you sure? Have you got the right person?” he said.

“This is unbelievable, I’ve won $100 million? Am I dreaming? I’m a millionaire now?”

The man’s wife was shocked when she heard the news, and the couple questioned whether he would need to keep working.

“I will continue to work. But I need to process this a bit more. Maybe I won’t in the future,” he said.

His wife said they would “buy a new house and set ourselves up for the future”.

A Sydney nurse is the only Australian to have won more than the Bankstown man when her numbers came up and she claimed more than $107 million in January 2019.

The winning numbers in Powerball draw 1414 on Thursday were 22, 3, 5, 23, 4, 14 and 6. The all-important Powerball number was 17.
