Not such a pretty sight
His cataracts removed, Jim lost his signature glasses but gained a clarity of sight that astounded him.
He could see veils of rain on the horizon, beads of water on blades of grass, the light in the eyes of his loved ones.

But then again, how filthy his home was, how poor his television picture. And who was that in the bathroom mirror, a man who looked like a topographic map?
When did he get so old? Taking a deep breath, Jim turned on the shower and watched the mirror fog up until at last he looked like himself again.

Korean noodles with spicy broth
This is a dish that I often crave, especially late at night and sometimes even for breakfast. Ramyeon are the Korean equivalent of Japanese instant ramen noodles. They come in an array of flavours, but I'm just interested in the noodles. Some decent stock, with a good spiking of fermented soybean paste and Korean chilli flakes and paste, is a good base. To this I just add some crunchy beansprouts, a soft egg, kimchi, stir-fried beef, spring onion, sesame and crispy shallots.
