Man charged after Canberra cyclist killed in Bungendore crash

A 37-year-old man has been charged after a Canberra cyclist was killed at the weekend.

Emergency services were called to Tarago Road, about 34 kilometres from Canberra, about 10am on Sunday to reports a cyclist was hit by a Mercedes Sprinter van. A medical helicopter also responded.

The 55-year-old female cyclist - from Canberra - died at the scene.

The man, who was driving the van, was not injured. He was taken to Queanbeyan Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was later taken to Queanbeyan Police Station where he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.

His licence was suspended and he was granted conditional bail to appear at Queanbeyan Local Court on Tuesday.
