Losing the plot
After packing the kids off to school, Jill searched in vain for her half-drunk cuppa.
She found it hours later in the linen cupboard. Ha.
The following day, making dinner, she realised she’d forgotten the kids’ dentist appointment.
“Mum’s losing it,” Hugh told his father over dinner.
“That so?” Mark replied, winking at Jill.

That night, after closing her laptop, she accompanied the dog outside and, while it peed and the household slept, regarded the moon.
Heading back inside, she found the door locked. “Mum’s losing it, Rocket,” she murmured.
As the dog wagged its tail furiously, she knocked apologetically.
