Hall pass
Amid a raucous dinner, Chris posed a question: “You’re allowed to sleep with someone else, just once. Who’d ya pick?”
“Benedict Cumberbatch,” said Eve, Chris’s wife.
“He’s odd-looking,” said Mike, sitting opposite, with Franny. “You can talk,” said Eve, and they laughed.
“Zoë Kravitz,” said Chris.
“Predictable,” said Mike, before adding: “Helen Mirren.”

“Yes!” squealed Eve.
They looked at Franny: “Well?”
She blushed.
“Jesus, Fran, play the game,” insisted Mike.
“Fine, then! Chris,” she said.
“Hemsworth?”
“No. Chris,” she repeated, eyeballing him, and for once that night, no one had a thing to say.

These parcels are comforting, nourishing and such a lovely way to make use of the humble savoy cabbage. Cooked in the oven with a simple tomato sauce and served with mashed potato or soft polenta, it is one of my favourite winter meals.
