Maddison Brown’s airport style: ‘I went viral on TikTok talking about this’

Georgie Gordon

Each week, we quiz a prominent person about their style and the inspiration behind it. Ahead, actor and beauty entrepreneur Maddison Brown.

How would you describe your personal style? Classic but playful.

What’s the oldest thing in your wardrobe? My R.M.Williams “Lady Yearling” boots.

And the most recent addition? For the past few months I’ve been based in New Zealand, where it’s still cold, so I bought a beautiful “Delano” jacket by Camilla and Marc.

What would you wear …
… on a first date? A little black dress and Chanel combat boots.
… on a plane? I went viral on TikTok talking about this. I didn’t realise that wearing jeans and a nice jumper and getting changed into sweatpants was so controversial, but when your luggage goes missing you don’t want to be stuck wearing sweats for three days. I’ll also wear ugg boots; I love that they’re a fashion thing now.
…on the red carpet? Two of my favourite looks were the red Dior dress I wore to the NGV Alexander McQueen Gala in 2022 and the black tulle Christopher Esber dress I wore to a Tiffany & Co event in New York City in April.

What’s your favourite fashion era? The ’70s. I love flared high-waisted jeans, button-downs and heeled boots. I also love the effortless beauty; I cut Jane Birkin-inspired curtain bangs in my hair last year.

Who are your favourite designers? I’ve always been fond of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. I grew up watching them; I even had a few pieces from the collection they did with Target in Australia in the early 2000s. Their label The Row is definitely my favourite now; everything they do is incredible.

What’s your fragrance of choice? Gris Dior.

What are the three essential items in your wardrobe? Re/Done jeans, Venroy white tees and a Camilla and Marc blazer.

Maddison Brown is coveting this Dior “Saddle” bag in Plan de Paris print, but it’s hard to find.

Any go-to jewellery? As a birthday present to myself, I had a pair of diamond earrings made. They’re two carats in total, in an illusion-style setting; from far away they look like giant, emerald-cut diamonds.

Can you remember a favourite outfit you wore as a child? When I was three, I was obsessed with my sister’s pink tulle tutu. Then there was a Hi-5 blue-beaded skirt that I basically lived in.

What was your first fashion moment? Wearing Louis Vuitton for the Sundance Film Festival red carpet in 2015. It was a pre-fall look that Nicolas Ghesquière did for one of his first collections. It was really special.

And your worst fashion mistake? I feel blessed to have grown up in the fashion industry; as a result, I’ve had a bit of preventative help from making any really bad mistakes. But colour-blocking was a big thing when I was 13: I’d wear a bright-blue blazer with a yellow top and hot-pink skirt. I’m more neutral in my colour palette now.

What’s on the top of your wish list? I’ve been trying to get my hands on a Dior “Saddle” bag in beige Plan de Paris print, but it’s sold out all over the world.

Is there anything you would never wear? A whale tail.

Is there a current trend you like? I’m loving seeing pops of red everywhere, whether it’s a sweater or a bag. Also, the low V-neck sweater with a high-neck plain white T-shirt underneath look is chic.

What shoes do you wear most often? I work out six days a week, so I wear my Adidas x Parley sneakers more than any other shoe.

What do you sleep in? Qantas pyjamas.

Who’s your favourite fashion icon? I like how Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s style has evolved with what she’s doing in life, and how she dresses business casual in a way that feels very cool.

What do you wear on a typical working day? For meetings, I’ll wear a tailored pant, white tank, blazer and my RMs.

What’s your favourite off-duty, casual Sunday look? Worn-to-death Re/Done jeans, Entire Studios hoodie and Converse sneakers.
