It's only the beginning of The Voice 2014, but that's it for our blog of the first blind auditions. Don't forget to check out Ben Pobjie's recap.

It was a successful night for all four coaches, with six hopefuls making it through to the battle rounds.

Here's how we ended the night:

And with that, the first blind auditions are over.

"That chair turning around, that's when you've made it," one contestant tells us in the preview of tomorrow night's episode. And we know we've become immune to wild overstatements on The Voice when that doesn't raise an eyebrow.

First up is South Australian Kat Jade. She's skipping to the audition and is wearing cat ears for the occasion, but describes herself as "a little bit of an introvert". OK then.

"You'll never meet anyone like her," says best friend Rhyain.

And here's the question we're all wondering: will she be as colourful on stage?

Ricky wins out and is so excited, he dances a celebratory jig. He's back in the game with his second singer of the night.

"Ricky is like Senoir Suave in Espanol. I'm a producer, he's a seducer," says will.i.am.

Ricky tries to win him over by speaking Spanish and Kylie joins in. "You were rocking the whole house," says Joel. "I just want to tell you that I have to have you on my team."

But will.i.am is having none of that. "You make beats. Yeah, yeah me too!"

Ricky: "You got us going. You know, your voice is amazing and you go in every direction: you went from pop to hip-hop ..."

Carlos Velazquez, or C Major ("mainly I came up with that because no one could spell my last name"), is the next hopeful. He adjusts his singlet, walks on stage and launches into Beyonce's Crazy in Love.

The coaches can't decide whether it's a male or female singing, but it doesn't matter ... Kylie's out of her chair and pumping the air. Joel's up too.

Bang! Ricky and will.i.am turn their chairs.

The fight is on now: by the end of the audition, all four judges want him on their team.

I'm finding it tough to choose between Anja Nissen, Lionel Cole and Frank Lakoudis for best performance of the night. How do you rate the performances so far?

Hope this doesn't end in tears. Rosemaree Dinaro, 21, wants to surprise her dad. He's in the audience unaware his daughter is auditioning.

Dinaro's performance of Can't Fight the Moonlight is a little green (no, we don't mean the lighting). Kylie thinks about spinning her chair, but Rosemaree ends without turning one. Despite that, she's still smiling.

Ricky gets her parents up on stage and lets her down gently: "Thank you so much for coming to The Voice and sharing your talent with us."

The Black Eyed Peas (will.i.am's band) used to open for Cole's band, which has to be awkward for both of them.

In the end, he goes with Ricky.

Meanwhile, we breathe a sigh of relief that the coaches recognised a rich musical history. Unlike last year ...

Is that a kilt? Dreadlocked Lionel Cole, 45, makes a bold statement walking down the red carpet. He's singing Unforgettable, a song made famous by his uncle Nat King Cole.

"It feels like The Voice has given me the chance to get my own set of keys to the family business," he says.

He gets a wolfwhistle while walking on stage and his smooth, velvety voice connects with Ricky and Kylie.
