Ricki Coughlan was one of Australia’s first public transgender athletes and the first to be granted a place in open women’s sport. She is an adviser to Pride in Sport Australia and has assisted to develop inclusive sporting policies.

Swimming body’s transgender ruling leaves me greatly saddened
Thirty years ago when I was outed in my sport, I was widely supported. I discovered an Australia which was open, welcoming and brave enough to accept a broader vision of our humanity, culture and society.
