The world leaders discussed US-Canada trade and relations. But, of course, the meeting's real purpose was providing Twitter users with various awkward photographs ripe for a satirical caption or 10, as the progressive, pro-refugee, feminist politician met with a man who was elected off the back of a sexual assault scandal and a plan to crack down on border control.

First there was the awkward handshake (in which Trudeau managed to pull away much quicker than Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe last week):

In the international diplomacy equivalent of buying your new neighbour a hedge trimmer while loudly remarking about how the rain can really cause the garden to become overgrown quite quickly, Trudeau arrived at the meeting with a gift for Trump: a picture of the businessman speaking to his father, liberal former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, taken in the 1980s before Trump's move into conservative politics.
